Palestine's UN Ambassador: Current period is most perilous in Palestinian history since 1948

Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, has described the current period as one of the most perilous in Palestinian history since the Nakba of 1948, marked by massacres, forced displacement, and possessions of the Palestinian people.

Mansour emphasized that the Palestinian people continue to suffer from this historical injustice due to a lack of collective international effort to support their rights, including the right to self-determination, independence, and the right to return to their homeland.
He criticized Israel for its ongoing military aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for nearly a year. Mansour highlighted the continued bombardment of densely populated areas, including homes, mosques, churches, schools, hospitals, shelters, and refugee tents.
He said Israel is exacerbating the suffering of Palestinians by obstructing humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and fuel, and of using starvation as a weapon of war, in blatant violation of international law and UN resolutions.
Mansour also denounced Israel's persistent evacuation orders for Gaza's two million residents, describing them as part of a physical and psychological war against civilians, including women, children, the sick, the wounded, the elderly, and the disabled.
He characterized these orders as a means of suffocating the Palestinian population and forcing them to flee their land.
In his statement, Mansour underscored the importance of the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion on the illegitimacy of the occupation and the urgent need for its complete and immediate termination.
He called for translating this opinion into practical actions, urging Israel, third states, and international organizations to adhere to the court's findings.
Mansour announced that Palestine plans to seek a vote at the United Nations General Assembly in the coming weeks, aiming to ensure that the international community takes necessary actions to support the ICJ's historic decisions.
