Senior Iraqi Sunni scholar has stressed support for top Shia jurisprudent denouncing the US for pursuit of ways to insult Ayatollah Sistani.

Sheikh Khalid al Mala’, head of Iraq’s Sunni scholars’ Assembly, in an interview with al-Ahd channel voiced support of the Sunni community for prominent Shia cleric Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He referred to the US close monitoring of the interactions between the Iraqi people and religious leaders and said,” Silence in regards to the recent issues is unacceptable.”
 
Top Sunni scholar added,” Jurisprudence is one of the most important sources of power in Iraq as Hashd al Shabi (the Popular Mobilization Units) was established due to the order by jurisprudents in order to defend Iraqi borders against the terrorist groups.”
 
Head of the Iraqi Scholars Assembly also highlighted importance of defending Shia jurisprudents against US plots.”
 
Former US ambassador to Iraq has recently written a letter to the authorities calling Hashd al Shaabi as a great hinder for US interests and noted that religious powers in general, Shia rule in particular should be eliminated from the political and social equations in the Arab country.
 
Several authorities have condemned the remarks by US former envoy and voiced support for grand Ayatollah Sistani.
