UN envoy pays tribute to President Raeisi, FM Amir-Abdollahian

The UN Deputy Secretary General has paid tribute to Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian martyred in a Sunday helicopter crash in northwest Iran.

Amina Mohammad offered condolences over the tragic incident in a meeting with Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations and his deputy, Zahra Ershadi, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
She signed the condolence book and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of the members of Iranian delegation martyred in the helicopter crash incident.
 
The ambassadors from 50 countries signed the condolence book opened for the late Iranian President and Foreign Minister at Iran’s permanent mission at the United Nations following the tragic incident that martyred the delegation of Iranian officials in Iran’s East Azarbaijan Province.
 
Meanwhile the envoys from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held a memorial service at the UN office in Geneva to pay tribute to the late Iranian president and his companions.

 
The helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, prayer leader of Tabriz and also Malik Rahmati, the governor of East Azarbaijan crashed in the mountains due to dense fog and poor weather.
 
The government announced five days of national mourning as all people on board were martyred.
 
A number of countries including Pakistan, Iraq, Lebanon, India, Sri Lanka and Syria also announced national mourning and the martyrs were laid to rest in massive funeral ceremonies held in different cities across the country.
