Indian university calls for Islam-Christianity dialogue with Iran

Director of Islamic studies at major Indian university has called for expansion of Islam-Christianity interfaith dialogue and religious cooperation with Iran.

Joseph Victor Edwin, Christian scholar and director of Islamic Studies Department at Vidya Jyoti Eduniversity in Chandigarh met with Hujjat-ul-Islam Mahdavipour, representative of the Supreme Leader in New Delhi and Mohammad Ali Rabbani, Iran's cultural attaché in India to highlight commonalities of Islam and Christianity, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He said," The spiritual ambiance and Islamic-Christian mysticism has found the proper grounds for mutual understanding and the Islamic Studies Department in Vidya Jyoti Eduniversity has particularly focused on Islam-Christianity dialogue founding relations with the Muslim communities so far."
 
He lauded the Iranian cultural centers over cooperation with the Indian academy calling for expansion of relations and promotion of interfaith dialogue between Islam and Christianity.
 
Iran's Hujjat-ul-Islam Mahdavipour in this meeting related on Shia and Supreme Leader's view on religious-cultural interactions between Muslims and Christians and stressed necessity of coexistence among different religions in India.
 
Representative of the Supreme Leader also announced preparation for promotion of dialogue and cooperation between Iranian and Indian scholars and intellectuals.
 
The meeting concluded as the two sides agreed on proposing programs for joint annual cooperation on different cultural and religious fields.
