People across Iran mark Ashura procession1 (photo)

Iranians across the country commemorated Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), third Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) who, together with 72 of his companions, was martyred in the Battle of Karbala. The third Shia Imam rose for reform and fight against the tyrant ruler of the time, Yazid ibn Muawiya back in 680 AD.
