Researchers in our country are about to build an oceanographic research vessel with superior features. This fleet is going to be 100 Meters Length which is good for longer marine patrol, according to Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

The fleet was designed 2009 and its currently under construction by local experts and companies.

The cost of this contract is about $9m and the project is expected to be completed in two years after signing the contract.

At a meeting of the representatives from several Iranian ministries and officials from Iran's National Institute of Oceanography (INIO), the contract for designing, building and equipping the vessel was concluded.

Head of INIO Vahid Chegini expressed the hope that by using the vessel, Iran would make further strides in achieving its marine research objectives.

Chegini also hoped that the project would serve as a model in marine research for regional countries.

He pointed that the counselor of this project was an outstanding Italian company.

“This vessel will be built in the Martyr Darvishi maritime Organization and the designing of the vessel is upon the Italian company,” Chegini underlined.

Oceanographic research vessels conduct research on biological, chemical and physical characteristics of marine life, the atmosphere and climate.
