Syria warns UN militants will use WMD against civilians

Syria tells the UN it would never use chemical weapons on its people, warning that ‘terrorist groups’ may resort to such weapons in the ongoing turmoil in the country.
Syria warns UN militants will use WMD against civilians
"Terrorist groups may resort to using chemical weapons against the Syrian people... after having gained control of a toxic chlorine factory," the foreign ministry said Saturday.

The comment follows accusations by the US and its allies that Damascus wants to use chemical weapons as fighting rages on between government forces and foreign-backed militants.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama have vowed to take action if the Syrian Army uses its alleged stockpile of chemical weapons during the ongoing turmoil inside the country.

Syria has rejected having intent to use chemical weapons against it people.

"No chemical or biological weapons will ever be used, and I repeat, will never be used, during the crisis in Syria no matter what the developments inside Syria," said Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdissi.

The allegations come as commentators say the US is attempting to orchestrate an Iraq-like scenario in Syria. Meanwhile, after militants took control of the toxic chemical plant in Aleppo, a shocking video emerged showing them testing chemical weapons in Syria.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011. Many people, including large numbers of security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.

The Syrian government says the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants are foreign nationals. /SR
