“Al-Quds Day: A way of showing solidarity with Palestinians”

An anti-Zionist activist in England has expressed the view that non-violent resistance is the best way to defeat Settler colonialism in Palestine and by participating in Al-Quds Day activities, people can show their solidarity with Palestinians.
“Al-Quds Day: A way of showing solidarity with Palestinians”
Revd Dr Stephen Sizer, the founder and director of the Peacemaker Trust, a UK charity, in an interview with Taghrib News Agency (TNA) argues that the Zionist agenda is to colonize the entire Palestine, by expelling Palestinians and stealing their land.

“The reason for the attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan is because the site is also the site of the Jewish Temple which was destroyed by the Romans in 70CE, which many Zionists want to rebuild in place of the Dome of the Rock”, he said.

Regarding how to defeat the Zionist agenda, he mentions there are two ways; through violence and war or by non-violent resistance.

He said, “Non-violent means using BDS, that is, Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions is the best way which follows the model used to defeat Apartheid in South Africa. It was achieved through mass civil disobedience.”

He also believes that “Non-violent means we can isolate the Zionist regime and hold their leaders accountable for war crimes committed in Palestine. They must face the International Criminal court for crimes committed against the Palestinian people”.

Dr Sizer considers Al-Quds Day as “a very important way of showing our solidarity with the Palestinian people” and said that “there will be Al-Quds March on Sunday 16th of April in London and that many Jewish, Muslim and Christian organizations will participate. It is our way of showing that we have not forgotten the Nakba and we support the Palestinians”.

Dr Sizer has under taken many years research into Christian Zionism which reveal that “Christian Zionism is a heresy and is not taught in the Hebrew or Christian scriptures”.

“Jewish Zionist depends very heavily on Christian Zionists for their support. There are at least 10 times as many as Christians Zionists in the world to Jewish Zionist”, he mentioned.

Regarding the reality of Apartheid in Palestine, Dr Sizer said: “there have been a number of important documents published recently by human right organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and B'Tselem, the Jewish human right organization, documenting how Israel is practicing Apartheid in Palestine. Over 100 senior Israeli lawyers have also published the report saying the same thing recently.”

He noted that we should “educate people in the West and America to recognize that Israel is not a democracy but an Apartheid state where race or ethnicity is used to segregate, dominate and to humiliate Palestinians.”

He highlighted the fact that the United States, as a supporter of Israel, “uses its position in the UN Security Council to veto criticism of Israel for its human right abuses and shields it from accountability. The USA treats Israel differently to other countries”.

Stephen Sizer concluded that we must work together with American friends and organizations that are committed to non-violent resistance to expose the way Israel is colonizing Palestine and oppressing Palestinians and break the umbilical cord between America and Israel.

Dr Sizer’s writings on Christian Zionism have been translated into Persian and Arabic. His books and articles are freely accessible at www.stephensizer.com
