The Deputy Office for Islamic Ideology Dissemination at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Iran’s northeastern city of Mashhad has scheduled special programs to celebrate the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi, known as the last savior in Islam, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

According to Hujjat-ul-Islam Hossein Shariatinejad, the celebrations, which include sermons, will begin after the Maghrib and Isha prayers on Saturday, a night earlier than the auspicious occasion.

The Iranian cleric said that the ceremonies will continue on Sunday morning which marks 15th of Shaaban and the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi (AS) and will continue in the evening after Maghrib and Isha prayers.

According to the Shia ideology, Imam Mahdi (AS) is the twelfth and last Shia Imam who has been absent but is believed to reappear at the End of Time to rid the world of evil and bring justice.

Imam Mahdi was born on Shaaban 15th, 869 AD in Samarra, Iraq to Imam Hassan Askari, the eleventh Shia Imam, and mother Narjis.
