UK Muslims Plan Walk Against ISIL

UK Muslims Plan Walk Against ISIL
Daring hot summer sun, a group of British Muslims has called for a walk next July 26 against the so-called Islamic State (ISIL), sending out a loud message of condemnation on all acts of extremism and correcting misconceptions about their faith.

"ISIS has claimed the lives of many, and are even using social media to brainwash our youths. They are coming into our homes every night on the news and through the internet," Shaz Akura wrote on the wall of the Facebook event.

"Let us gather in a crowd that represents British Muslims, and make the news headlines this time. It's time we do something about this!"

Themed with the slogan British Muslims Walk to Condemn ISIS, the event will "start after Dhuhr prayers, in front of London Central Mosque (aka Regent's Park Mosque) and then walk around the outer circle of Regent's Park, finishing back at the mosque," Akura added.

The walk announcement followed three extremist attacks on France, Kuwait and Tunisia last Friday.

In France, a man stormed an American-owned chemical plant, decapitated one person and apparently tried to blow up the facility.

In Tunisia, a gunman drew an assault rifle from a beach umbrella and killed at least 38 people at a seaside resort. And in Kuwait, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a mosque during communal prayers, killing at least 25 Shiite worshipers.

The attacks, immediately condemned by world Muslims, resulted in the death of scores of people, most of them Muslims in the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

Rejecting the deplorable attacks, British Muslims see the event as a trial to correct misconceptions about their faith by offering the true face of Muslims.

"Let at least one person come from every Muslim household to represent our population. Let us show the world what true Islam is. We have to speak up and let this be a message that they are completely rejected by Muslims," the event reads.

"Let's make this immense, so ISIS are shaken by the headlines from us for once!!

"We walk because we condemn ISIS. We walk because we condemn terrorism. We walk to mourn the victims of ISIS. We walk because we are Muslims," the event added.

In a message to OnIslam.net, Akura expressed dismay at ready-made accusations they face whenever a terrorist attack takes place.

"I used to work as a college teacher and Muslim youths in the UK are isolated, and feeling lost from Islam and some actually believe Islam may be a violent religion. So not only do non Muslims think that but some of our own! Not to mention others are using what ISIS have done as a free passport to insult Islam, Allah and his prophet," Akura wrote.

"I think we need to show a huge united front, standing shoulder to shoulder and show not just the media, but the world and even ISIS that we are united and we reject the atrocities they commit in our name. We hope by doing this Muslims in other communities will do the same thing. And it will help the youths to also witness that ISIS is not Islam, so inshallah [God willing] they think twice before being led astray and also can have pride in their religion."
