Ayatollah Rafsanjani retells Leader’s election

Chairman of State Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani recalled his memoirs about the leadership of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei after the demise of late Imam Khomeini about 26 years ago.

“After the demise of the late Imam the members of the Assembly of Experts came to Tehran to convene to prevent disruption in the country’s administration,” Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani said.

He noted that at that time 14 experts were trying to change the trend of leadership while the majority of experts with absolute majority declared Ayatollah Khamenei as the country’s Leader.

He pointed to the Leader’s remarks in Imam Khomeini Mausoleum, and said, “These valuable statements and guidelines added to the glory of Imam’s anniversary.”
