Taliban-Daesh clashes kill 20 in eastern Afghanistan

At least 20 people are killed as members of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group and Taliban militants turn on each other and engage in a fierce exchange of gunfire in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar.

Provincial police spokesman, Colonel Hazrat Hussain Mashraqiwal, said on Friday that the skirmishes took place the previous evening in the Pachir Aw Agam district of the province, located some 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of the capital, Kabul.
Mashraqiwal added that a number of houses in the area were also torched as a result of the clash between the two militant groups.
Neither Taliban nor Daesh has made any comments on the incident.
On June 16, Taliban warned purported Daesh ringleader Ibrahim al-Samarrai aka Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi against “waging a parallel insurgency in Afghanistan.”
The militant group asked the Daesh leader to keep his men out of Afghanistan by withdrawing his support for those elements that are recruiting young militants in the so-called Taliban strongholds.
Afghanistan is gripped by insecurity years after troops from the United States and its allies invaded the country in 2001 as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror.
