Iran slams Saudi raid on UN Yemen office

“Saudi Arabia’s attacks on the infrastructure and non-military targets, as well as the killing and injuring of civilians [in Yemen] constitute a blatant and continuous violation of human rights,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham, said on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Saudi fighter jets targeted the office of the UN Development Program in the southern Yemeni city of Aden.

Afkham said international conventions require countries to acilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid by UN organs to war-stricken people.

She further expressed concern over the deterioration of humanitarian situation in Yemen, calling for the facilitation of the delivery of humanitarian aid to Yemen.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon  on Monday urged an investigation into the airstrike by Saudi Arabia on the UN compound in Yemen.

“The secretary general urges a full investigation into this incident and that anyone found to be responsible for any breaches be held to account,” Farhan Haq, a deputy spokesman for the UN chief, said on Monday.

Saudi Arabia has been incessantly bombarding different areas in Yemen since March 26 without any authorization from the United Nations and regardless of international calls for the cessation of its deadly campaign against the impoverished Arab country.

The main objectives pursued by Saudi Arabia in its ongoing war on Yemen are to weaken the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to the fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.

UN Human Rights spokesman Rupert Colville said on June 16 that at least 1,412 Yemeni civilians, including 210 women, had been killed and a further 3,423 injured since the start of the Saudi aggression.

Iran's condemnation of Egypt terrorist attack
Afkham also condemned the assassination of Egypt's state prosecutor Hisham Barakat, extending condolences to the Egyptian nation and government.

She described the act of terrorism in Egypt as part of a plot to destabilize the North African country.
The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman also said that such terrorist attacks are plotted to cause division in the Middle East region, and weaken and destabilize the regional countries.

Egypt’s Justice Minister Ahmed al-Zind said Barakat died in hospital hours after a bomb explosion struck his convoy in Cairo on Monday.

Witnesses said that the fatal explosion completely destroyed five vehicles and blew out windows of several shops in Cairo’s district of Heliopolis.

The deadly bombing came after an ISIL-linked terrorist group in the North African country called for attacks on judiciary officials.

The security situation has deteriorated across Egypt since the ouster of  the country's first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi, in a military coup in July 2013.
