Imam Reza shrine welcomes over five million pilgrims annually

The holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), in Iran’s northeastern city of Mashhad receives five to seven million pilgrims from other countries, says the Deputy Office for International Pilgrims Affairs.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Mohammad Zolfaghari, said that a team of 700 experts with good command of 14 different languages are providing services to the visiting pilgrims throughout the year, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
According to the cleric different sections of the team are involved in providing the pilgrims with their demands.
 
He said,” Our endeavors are focused on providing cultural and promotional items in order to provide the grounds for an enlightening and memorable pilgrimage.”
 
 
Hujjat-ul-Islam Zolfaghari noted,” Some 25 different services are provided to non-Iranian Arab pilgrims in Ghadir Courtyard, Urdu-speaking pilgrims in Ghadir Portico, and Arab and Azeri visitors in Dar al-Rahmah Portico.
 
The holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), eighth Shia Imam and grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), is a tourist attraction for both Muslim and non-Muslim tourists arriving in Iran.
 
The shrine, together with its seven courtyards cover an area of nearly 600,000. The entire complex is specifically interesting to the visitors and pilgrims due to the cultural, religious and historical aspects as well as the special ceremonies held throughout the year.
