The UN agency for Palestinian refugees said the Palestinian children in Gaza are deprived of their most basic rights reiterating the need for supply of humanitarian aid for the minors in the war-ravaged territory.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) sounded the alarm on Saturday over the fate of education in Gaza, warning that more than 660,000 children have been deprived of schooling for a third consecutive year as Israel’s devastating war nears the two-year mark, Anadolu reports.

A Palestinian doctor in Gaza warned on Friday that without urgent intervention providing therapeutic food and medication, children facing starvation in the besieged territory could die “not in weeks, actually, but in days”.

British surgeon Graeme Groom, who returned from a volunteer mission in the Gaza Strip, which is facing Israeli genocide and starvation, said that children there are "trying to sleep with stomachs full of water and salt," amid a "man-made" humanitarian crisis he described as "barbaric, harking back to the Middle Ages."

'Blankets, mattresses, and other winter supplies have been stuck in the region for months waiting for approval to get into Gaza,' Philippe Lazzarini says, referring to Israel's blockade of coastal enclave.

“More than a quarter of a million aid trucks have been blocked from entering Gaza by the Israeli army since the start of its genocidal war in October last year,” said Gaza’s government media office. “The occupation army continues to reinforce the starvation policy, especially in northern Gaza.”

Doctors and families in Gaza described children, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, suffering from severe malnutrition and dehydration, and hospitals ill-equipped to treat them, the rights group said.

“With every passing day, children and families in the Gaza Strip face increased risk of death from the sky, disease from lack of safe water and deprivation from lack of food,” UNICEF Special Representative on Children in Palestine, Lucia Elmi, said at a UN press conference.
