Leader announces 5-day public mourning over passing of President Raeisi, companions

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei has offered condolences over the Sunday helicopter crash that killed President Sayyed Ebrahim Raeisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and their companions in northeast Iran.
The Leader in his message announced five days of public mourning and that vice president Mohammad Mokhber assumes interim duties to lead the executive branch after the death of President Raeisi adding that the vice president “will be required to work with the heads of legislative and judicial to prepare for presidential elections “within a maximum period of 50 days”.
 
 
Ayatollah Khamenei said the news on the passing of the capable, popular and diligent president was received amid sorrow and deep regret.
 
The Leader said,” This incident happened during a mission to serve the people as the entire office of the devoted president, both during his presidency and before that, was spent in incessant struggles to serve the Iranian nation, country and Islam.
 
Ayatollah Khamenei hailed President Raeisi for tireless efforts stressing that the Iranian nation has lost a sincere and devoted official.
 
The Leader also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of those killed in this incident.
