Belarus and Iran plan to open direct flights between the two countries shortly, Belarusian Ambassador said ahead of the country's President Alexander Lukashenko’s visit to Tehran.
"The direct flight will, of course, become a powerful factor for expansion of economic cooperation between Belarus and Iran," he said.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will arrive in Tehran on Sunday for an official meeting and discussion with high-ranking officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In a statement, the Office of the President of Belarus added: "Lukashenko will stay in Tehran for two days, during which he will meet and talk with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi."
On the sidelines of the 16th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand, the presidents of Iran and Belarus tasked the foreign ministries of the two countries to work to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations.
In February, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus announced that Belarusian and Iranian aviation authorities "carried out a work on opening of air service from Tehran to Minsk and back."
Belavia used to fly this route between August 2010, and late October 2017.
