MP hails Iran stance in Istanbul talks

29 Jan 2011 - 9:04

An Iranian lawmaker has hailed the country's negotiating team in the multifaceted talks in Istanbul for their display of the Islamic Republic's values.

“The sons of this nation will safeguard the legitimate rights of the Islamic [Republic of] Iran in all international arenas,” Seyyed Mostafa Tabataba'inejad told IRNA on Friday.

“Hence, members of Majlis (Parliament) support Iran's strong stance in the Istanbul meeting and declare that the Islamic Republic will defend its legitimate rights with authority and dignity.”

He insisted that the Iranian nation considers a peaceful nuclear energy program as its “inalienable right” and will not backtrack on its stand in this regard.

The lawmaker vowed that the Iranian nation and officials would resist the “greedy demands by the global arrogance,” and criticized the West for opposing Iran's nuclear activities despite knowing the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear program.

The West's opposition and the imposition of sanctions against the Islamic Republic are “aimed at averting world public opinion from the crimes the Zionist regime [of Israel] is committing all over the Middle East and across the globe,” Tabataba'inejad said.

He referred to a recent visit by diplomats from about 120 countries to the country's nuclear sites upon an invitation by Tehran, stressing that the goodwill gesture refuted the US and Israeli allegations against the Islamic Republic's nuclear objectives.
