The 9th edition of dialogue between Islam and Orthodox Christianity under the banner of “Christians and Muslims in Constructive Dialogue for the Good of Society” is held in Iran Capital City of Tehran, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Over half of the world’s total population today follows a common belief: there’s only one God. Monotheism traces its history back to Abraham.

Abraham is known as the first post-flood person to reject idolatry through rational analysis. In the early stages, this belief gained fervent followers, but historical accounts show a growing gap between the three major monotheistic religions. Religious figures have put forth their utmost effort to narrow the schism.

Today and in line with the efforts to build a better society based on peaceful teachings of monotheistic religions, and to live in a world devoid of any violence and extremism, interfaith dialogues are a proper ground for figures from those religions to explore commonalities hidden under a miasma of propaganda initiated by those who benefit from religious division.

The conference is aimed at seeking ways to put an end to extremist acts perpetrated by groups that under the name of religion disrupt the peaceful stream of life only to besmirch those religions and to trigger division.

The Vatican archbishop pointed to people’s cognizance of the real nature of the current Takfiri acts in the region.

The two sides stressed the need for a better understanding between monotheistic religions and reiterated that better understanding of the pure essence of religions would neutralize any attempt of denigration.
