Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani says the spread of terrorism in the Middle East poses a danger to international security, urging all countries to fight against terrorist groups.

“European countries do not have a proper understanding of terrorism in the region and the fight against these [terrorist] groups requires global resolve and will in cooperation with all countries,” Larijani said in a Tuesday meeting with President of the National Council and President of the Council of States at the Swiss Parliament Carlo Sommaruga and Gutzwiller Felix, respectively, in Tehran.

“The presence of European and American nationals in terrorist groups is a danger to the security of those countries,” he added.

According to a report by the United Nations, over 25,000 militants from more then 100 nations have joined al-Qaeda and ISIL Takfiri militants in Iraq and Syria and other countries.

The Iranian Majlis speaker also stressed the importance of bolstering Tehran-Bern cooperation to supply food and medicine to refugees in Syria and Yemen who are suffering critical conditions.

Larijani added that Iran and Switzerland have political and economic potentialities which should be tapped to serve the two nations’ interests.

Sommaruga, for his part, said the Swiss government and parliament are hopeful that negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 countries over Tehran’s nuclear program would lead to a comprehensive agreement as soon as possible.

Felix also called for the establishment of stability and security in the region and said regional instability would spread insecurity across the world.

He further expressed his country’s readiness to send humanitarian aid to the Syrian and Yemeni refugees.
