Khan renews call for Paksitan PM resignation

Opposition politician Imran Khan has launched a massive political campaign, reiterating calls for Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down.
Khan renews call for Paksitan PM resignation

Khan made the comments while addressing thousands of his supporters during a demonstration held in Larkana in Pakistan’s southern province of Sindh on Friday.

“Listen Pakistanis. Until we change the current (political) system, until we stop the corruption, until we change the police system, the judiciary system, no investment will come to Pakistan. And if the investments don’t come, there will be no new jobs,” the cricketer-turned-politician said.

Khan, who heads Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, added that the “Go Nawaz Go” slogan has now reached Sindh, repeating claims that the Pakistani premier had rigged the 2013 elections that led him to power.

“There was a historic rigging of the 2013 general elections that the ruling PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-N) party did in Punjab and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Sindh. We think until those involved in the rigging are punished there is no way for new elections. The next elections will also be unfair,” he stated.

Sharif, who has remained defiant in the face of calls for him to resign, has ordered the Supreme Court to build an inquiry team to look into last year’s polls.

Pakistan has been the scene of anti-government protests since August 14.

Talks between representatives from Sharif’s PML-N and the opposition groups have stalled as both sides refuse to back down from their stances.

The ruling party says Sharif will not resign, while the opposition refuses to accept any solution short of his resignation.
