Violence erupted after Friday prayers when Israeli forces attacked Palestinians protesting against Tel Aviv’s illegal settlement activities.

A 60-year-old man and a Palestinian child were wounded in clashes in the village of Kafr Qaddum.

Israeli military forces fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters, and reportedly detained several demonstrators.

Earlier in the day, Israeli troops raided a village near the West Bank city of Ramallah and arrested a 21-year-old man, Palestinian media reported.

The soldiers also searched the man’s home with dogs, broke the doors and took away cell phones.

Also on Friday, Tel Aviv approved plans for the construction of some 430 new illegal settler units in the occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank, including East al-Quds (Jerusalem) in 1967.

The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in the 1967 war and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbid construction on the occupied lands.
