Born in 1949, Syrian grand Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun received his degree in Arab literature and his PhD degree in Shafe’i Fiq’h from Al Azhar University. He was appointed as the mufti of Aleppo in 2002 before joining Syria’s Supreme Council of Muftis and becoming a member the seventh and eighth rounds of Syria’s Democratic Council.
Preacher of Al-Rowza Mosque in Aleppo also holds a distinguished PhD degree in Islamic Studies focusing his dissertation on a study of Kitab al-Umm, a law reference book in Islamic Shafi’i denomination. The study is in a ten-volume compilation of 4’500 pages.
Syria’s grand Mufti also holds an honorary PhD from Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University in Jakarta.
Social and charity activities:
- Launching Al-Furqan charity organization which supports 1’400 underprivileged Syrian families
Directing charity center to promote health and social welfare in Aleppo providing service for some 1’400 people and also supplying specialist healthcare for the elderly in ten medical centers.
Co-founder of ‘Al-Afia’ charity to aid underprivileged patients in need of surgeries
Member of the committee supporting Palestinian Intifadha and resistance against Zionist plan on Judaization of al-Quds and destruction of Islamic and Christian sanctities
Constant meetings with political and religious figures from western, American and Jewish boards discussing the rights and reality of Palestine with a focus on prevalence of peace without war and bloodshed

Expressing the inclusiveness of Islam though numerous in denominations and ethnicities

Views on the issue of Palestine:
Syria’s Sheikh Badreddin Hassoun has spared no effort to express the rights of Palestinian people in their lands, in his meetings with political and religious figures, western and American envoys and also different religious boards of European youths.
