During a meeting with a delegation from the Syrian city of Tartous, Patriarch al-Rahi pointed out that President Bashar al-Assad has initiated reforms since March 2011, stressing that reforms must come from within since reforms that come from aboard do more damage than help, noting that foreign interference led to the destruction of Iraq.

He voiced hope for the achievement of the reforms that the Syrian people want, and that the same would happen in Lebanon and the rest of the Arab world.

"We're with you alongside all Christians and Muslims in Syria," Patriarch al-Rahi told the delegation, stressing that the Syrian and Lebanese are one people in neighboring countries, adding that all people should live in a state of cohesion and confront their issues on their own.

He rejected the prospect of the Arab world becoming a land of iron and fire, because it's a holy land from which came Jesus Christ, the prophets and the road to salvation.

In turn, members of the delegation which comprises members of two popular gatherings and lawyers, relayed a message of love and fidelity from Syria on occasion of Christmas.
