Iraqi PM hails efforts to boost Islamic proximity, relations

Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, has stressed the efforts to promote Islamic relations and proximity among different denominations.

Al-Sudani made the remarks in a meeting with the delegation of Iranian Shia and Sunni scholars from World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought on Wednesday, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
Iraqi PM said, ”Islamic nation has been constantly challenged by deliberate distortion of Islam, a contemporary form of that being terrorism.”
 
He said,” Iraqi nation, since 2003, began a strategic fight to defend their land and elimination of the former dictator system, counter-terrorism and fighting the terrorist group of Daesh”.
 
He added that the difficult fight, besides the fatwa (religious statement) by grand Ayatollah Sistani, united the entire nation and said,” Diversity of fiq’h, interpretation and Qur’anic readings is an honor and a symbol for richness of history.”
 
Al-Sudani also hailed efforts to boost Islamic proximity and said, “Islamic proximity is specifically a humane, Islamic and Mohammadan mission.”
 
The Iraqi PM added,” We need a generation of youths and Islamic nations to maintain interaction with different denominations” and added,” Islamic denominations are close and share several commonalities.”
 
Prime Minister al-Sudani also touched upon the ongoing war in Gaza and said, “Brutal atrocities by Israeli occupation forces is a massacre, genocide unparalleled in the entire history”.
 
He condemned the brutal atrocities against the Palestinians and said the initiatives and condemnations are disproportionate with the crimes committed in Gaza.
 
Iraqi Prime Minister called Palestine as an important issue for the Iraqi people.
The delegation of Iranian scholars led by Dr Hamid Shahriari met with the Iraqi Prime Minister on the sideline of the second International Islamic Unity Conference entitled “Al-Aqsa Flood, Issues and Identity” organized by al-Rebat al-Mohammadi Scholars Society in the capital Baghdad.
