Nigerian pilgrim donates exquisite copy of Quran to Imam Reza shrine library

A Nigerian pilgrim has donated an exquisite Maghrebi manuscript of holy Qur’an to Imam Reza shrine central library in Iran’s northeastern city of Mashhad.

Hossein Khabazian, a manuscript expert in the Organization of Libraries, Museums and Documents of Imam Reza shrine, said the unique manuscript is associated with the west of Islamic world, hence it is known as Maghrebi, Arabic translation for western, Taqrib News Agency (TNA) quoted Astan News as reporting.

He said the copy is a contemporary manuscript written only in Arabic with no translation added.
He added that the book has no decorative fonts or colors only identifying if the Sura was revealed in Mecca or Medina.
Khabazian concluded his remarks by stating that the copy was the second one in Maghrebi script in the organization – the first one dating back to the 10th century AH.
 
Inaugurated in 1985, the Qur’an Museum at the holy shrine of Imam Reza has compiled some of the most valuable editions of the holy book of Islam. The museum shows old editions of holy Qur’an dating back to 4th century AH.
