At least five police officers have been killed in a terrorist attack in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan.

Alireza Marhamati, the provincial deputy security and law enforcement governor, said a number of armed men affiliated with the so-called Jaish al-Adl terrorist group attacked police patrols in Sib and Soran counties on Tuesday.

He said security forces continue the manhunt to find the perpetrators.
“The Jaish-e-Zalum terrorist group registers in its own name every incident that occurs by criminals and disrupters of order and security in order to magnify it,” the official said.

The so-called Jaish al-Adl has claimed responsibility for the assault.
Last week, the terror outfit launched attacks on public places as well as military and law enforcement bases in the province.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said the overnight attacks on Thursday were launched with the intention to seize IRGC headquarters in the towns of Chabahar and Rask, but they were thwarted by the security forces who lost 10 members.

Jaish al-Adl terrorists suffered 18 fatalities in the ensuing clashes with security forces.

Jaish al-Adl has claimed responsibility for several attacks in recent years on Iranian security forces in Sistan and Baluchestan.

The area borders Afghanistan and Pakistan, and has long been the site of frequent clashes between Iranian security forces and Takfiri terrorists as well as drug traffickers.

In December, the terrorist group attacked a police station in the town of Rask, killing 11 security personnel. Iran responded to the attack, targeting two bases of the terrorist group in Pakistan with missiles.

Official news agency IRNA on Thursday described Jaish al-Adl as the “terrorist group of Jaish al-Zulm (Army of Brutality), whose nature and dependence on the infamous Zionist regime is quite clear.”
