Huj. Shahriari offers condolence over passing of Afghan scholar

The Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought has offered condolences over passing of prominent Afghan mufti hailing his efforts to promote solidarity among different ethnicities in the country.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Hamid Shahriari, Secretary General of World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, in a message issued on Saturday expressed regret for loss of Haj Maulawi Khodadad Saleh the proximity figure and founder of al-Ghiyath seminary and university, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
 
He underlined the endeavors by the scholar during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan that led to his imprisonment and torture by the then communist Soviet government.
 
Hujjat-ul-Islam Shahriari said,” The valuable contributions by the late cleric during his leadership of the Herat Mosque, chairmanship of Ghiyathi Dar-ul-Olum and his observation of the al-Ghiayth Islamic Institution have led to promotion of Islamic solidarity among different ethnicities in Afghanistan, particularly in Herat.
 
Top Iranian cleric offered his sympathy with the bereaved family, students and Shia and Sunni community in Afghanistan.
 
A prominent figure in Herat, Maulawi Khodadad Saleh was the former chairman of the council of scholars in western Afghanistan and a moderate clergy in religious and political arena who spent his life in promoting of Islamic teachings.
 
Following months of illness, the senior Sunni cleric passed away on Tuesday.
