Turkish thinker: Islamic unity project, while being a political project, is a civilizational project.

In fact, unity is a religious order, being a model of life, Uğrun noted, dictated to us by life itself. In another word, even if being not so much committed to religion, a wise man with healthy nature knows pretty well that living in peace and calm, fair and honorable peace and in full political and economic independence is preferrable. However, we face certain geographical problems.
“From this standpoint, unity should be considered as a mentality, which also comprises “ethics of unity” or “aesthetics of unity,” called ethics. We can emphasize it. That’s not a mission to be undertaken by a single person. That’s rather a kind of Ijtihad, but not a personal Ijtihad to be handled by a single country or institution. It should be welcomed in different levels.”

He stated, “In fact, Muslims are not the only persons who need Islamic unity because when problems arise in Central Asia, non-Muslims are also affected by them. Home leaving of thousands of Muslims due to certain unrest in Central Asia leads causes such problems for the west as the immigration crisis and refuge. That’s a very important project, which should be supported on a global scale by non-Muslims, who have good intention and are consciences, and they should not prevent it by harmful activities. “
He concluded, “Therefore, if we wish to materialize the project of unity, we should face realities and be courageous enough to express them. In another word, any country has a series of pre-judgements and prejudices, which are formed by the structures of the country’s religious understanding.”
