Shia, Sunni scholars discuss Islamophobia at London Islamic unity conference
Muslim scholars from different denominations convened at London Islamic unity conference on Sunday to exchange views on history and manifestations of Islamophobia across the globe.

24th Islamic unity conference was held in the capital London as Shia and Sunni scholars from Bahrain, Britain, Indonesia, Iran and Pakistan met at Islamic center of London to discuss the different issues challenging Muslims mainly Islamophobia and hatred for the Muslim community, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).
Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Hashem Mousavi, director of Islamic Center of London in his remarks referred to ethnical, tribal and lingual differences among Muslims which are not of great importance but should not eventually lead to conflicts or clashes.
He noted that Islamophobia was probably sparked in the UK in late 1980 to invoke baseless fear of Islam and Muslims among the people.
The cleric also referred to conquest of parts of Europe by Muslims and continuation of hostilities in the Crusade in early 12th century as the grounds which sowed fear of Islam in the minds of western people before it was raised and intensified in its present extent.
Ayatollah Hadavi Tehrani, attending the meeting via video call, in his speech called the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Islamic Unity Week as an opportunity to highlight the issues challenging the world of Islam and said,” The fake image of promoted by the media should be corrected by our own media and returning to the behavior of the Prophet of Islam.”
He called on the Islamic centers in non-Muslim countries to allocate part of their endeavors to correcting the fake image of Islam provided by the media.
Sheikh Mohammad Omar Ramezan, member of the Muslim Council of Britain expressed regret that Islam is targeted from all sides as Shia and Sunni Muslims are behaved with discrimination from the very beginning moments of arrival in non-Muslim countries.
He also criticized several instances of attack on Islami centers in different countries as a manifest of Islamophobia.
Professor Saeed Shehabi in his speech noted that the fake content generated by some media are all carried out with the aim of combatting Islam.
He said,” The first axis of Islamophobia is desecration of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the second is Hijab ban and the third axis is extremism.”
Mohammad Khaled, senior Sunni scholar attending the conference via video conference said,” The best method to confront Islamophobia is to follow the example of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and maintaining unity in the Islamic ummah.”
24th Islamic Unity Conference was held in London concurrent with the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
