2 Nov 2021 - 9:28

A young Yemeni journalist has been sentenced by Saudi court to 15 years in jail over charges of “apostasy” and “insulting Islamic sanctities.”

Najran criminal court has reportedly sentenced Yemeni journalist Ali Abu Lahoum to 15 years in jail in line with the crackdown of the dissidents.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity, an informed source said Lahoum was detained following an argument with a group of Saudi businessmen.

A resident of the southwestern region of Najran in Saudi Arabia, Abu Lahoum was working with a commercial media organization. He had earlier worked for the Saudi Arabic-language al-Wadi television station.

Saudi Arabia has a record of repressing the journalists, intellectuals, clerics and rights activists speaking in opposition with the government, one of the most brutal of them was Jamal Khashoggi’s murder prompting widespread revulsion and condemnation.
