Top Egyptian mufti:

"Visiting holy shrines doesn’t translate to atheism"

Top Egyptian mufti has issued a statement to reject visiting holy shrines and graves belonging to prominent religious figures as atheism as believed by Salafi groups.
"Visiting holy shrines doesn’t translate to atheism"
Shawqi Allam, grand mufti of Egypt, has issued a statement to stress that visiting the holy shrines does not translate to atheism as is claimed by Salafi groups, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He quoted a hadith by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) revising a previous statement which banned Muslims from visit to graveyards saying," Now we can go for pilgrimage to holy shrines as it is highly recommended."

The misconception which bans visit to the holy shrines as Haram is a belief merely among Wahhabi groups, inspired by Ibn Taymiyyah (1263-1328) who rejected both visit and even packing for a trip to holy shrines.
