Tolerance, prerequisite to reach Islamic unity

16 Jun 2019 - 13:29

Prominent Iranian cleric attended international conference in the Indian capital of New Delhi to stress tolerance as a contemporary necessity to reach unity and compassion among different Islamic denominations.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Mohammad Hussein Mokhtari, director of the University of Islamic Denominations (UID) hailed the Iranian academy as example of tolerance towards diversity of religious ideologies and denominations, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

He alluded to verses of Qur’an hailing the diversity of ethnicities, cultures and languages which should turn to a point for more solidarity among people rather than dispersion.

Top Iranian scholar stressed,” These differences could build the grounds for growth; hence, we should not merely focus on commonalities when even the disagreements have enough capability to bring us compassion and convergence.”

Director of Iran’s University of Islamic Denominations counted to study other denominations and respecting each other as the key criteria for achieving tolerance among different Islamic groups.

Hujjat-ul-Islam Mokhtari named extremism, radicalism and disrespecting sanctities of other denominations as hurdles for tolerance.

International conference on “Celebrating Diversity in the Muslim World” was attended by prominent religious figures from across the world including Dalai Lama, professor Ansari, former deputy of the Indian prime minister, leader of Shia and Sunni communities in India and also Iranian board of delegates from the University of Islamic Denominations.
