British Muslim woman inspires hijabi girls for athletic life

“Basirah, the Basketballer says Insha’Allah” is the title for the latest book by Hafsah Dabiri and illustrated by Alina Shabelnyk picturing a hijabi basketball player as the author meant to inspire Muslim girls to be sporty and attend athletic life in their Islamic cover, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

A former basketball player, the author says she was inspired to write the book based on her personal experiences and due to lack of books with a different view on the life of a Muslim woman.

“I’ve written a children’s book! The aim is to inspire little Muslim girls of colour not only to be sporty but to not be scared of the ups and downs of life!” has posted on her Instagram account describing her objective for writing the book.

She has also written,” The book is here to uplift and show our little girls that they are represented and their dreams of being active are possible!”

Hafsah Dabiri is a student, presenter and researcher. She studies politics and international relations in London and has led national campaigns.
