Al Kalifa concerned over Shia leader’s Iraq visit
Senior Bahraini Shia cleric, Sheikh Isa Qassim, has met with Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani, prominent Iraqi jurisprudent in the holy city of Najaf amid Al Kalifa regime concerns that the cleric is in pursuit of allegedly opening a new front against Manama, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

As Sheikh Issa Qasim has entered the Iraqi city of Najaf on pilgrimage to the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS), first Shia Imam and cousin of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), some Bahraini officials are concerned that the cleric’s intention is permanent residence in the country in a bid to launch relationships with Iran and opening a new front against al Kalifa regime.

Based on London-based daily al-Arab, Sheikh Issa Qassim is among prominent revolutionary figures in Bahrain who has made the historical visit to Iraq despite being stripped of Bahraini citizenship.

The daily has reported that the cleric’s bureau has issued a photo report of the meeting between the Bahraini and Iraqi leaders.
