Speaking ahead of a two-day trip to Israel yesterday, Heiko Maas said “responsibility for and solidarity with the Jewish and democratic state of Israel, standing up for its security and against anti-Semitism, that’s at the centre of our foreign policy.”
“We will continue our policy in the Middle East, Germany believes that a two-state solution reached through negotiations is the only way to achieve the legitimate demands of the Israelis and Palestinians,” he said, adding that the 1967 borders should not be changed.
According to the foreign ministry, Maas is scheduled to meet with the Israeli President, Reuven Rivlin, and Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as with the Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, during his trip.
