Zahra Nemati, the 32-year-old Iranian archer, claimed world title at the 2017 World Archery Para Championships in Beijing, China, a title she last won in Bangkok in 2013.

Shortly before her individual gold medal match at the event, the Iranian sportswoman won world championship bronze in the mixed team open with countryman Pouriya Jalalipour.

The World Archery Federation has described Nemati as a successful archer and role model for women’s empowerment through sport. She competed in both the Olympics and Paralympics of Rio in 2016, and won gold at the Paralympic Games for a second consecutive time.

She was also the winner of the Bangkok 2013 World Archery Para Championships, and become the first Iranian woman to win gold at London 2012.

Nemati was named Para archer of 2016 by World Archery at a gala held in Las Vegas, USA.
The United Nations hailed her as an Ambassador for women with disabilities for her contribution to empowering women in sport and she addressed a UN committee in New York in June 2014.
