"I just want to say that this rally which is against the continued escalation of intervention of the United States in Syria, is one of actually over 40 around the country taking place,” said one protester outside the White House, in Washington, DC, on Saturday.

Protesters who were holding placards reading "No war on Syria", and waving the Arab countries flag, chanted “no more war".

Darren Fenwick, a protester who joined the protesters from Silver Spring, Maryland, said Trump’s anti-Damascus war in Syria and his order to attack a Syrian airbase used to fight Daesh was a conspiracy.

“This is really some sort of conspiracy, and that somehow the US government can't, along with the international community, be a force to actually save lives, is a fallacy,” he said.

Similar protests are being held in dozens of US cities across the country.

Anti-war protests were also held on Friday.

The demonstrators are protesting against the Trump-ordered airstrikes on government forces in Syria.

On Friday, al-Shayrat airbase was the target of missiles fired from US Navy vessels stationed in the Mediterranean Sea. Trump claimed the attack was a direct response to Tuesday's alleged chemical weapons attack in Khan Sheikhoun near Idlib for which he holds Syrian President Bashar al-Assad responsible.

The Syrian government has denied responsibility.
