A CTS commander, Brigadier General Haider Fadhil, on Tuesday said that Iraqi forces have fully liberated and cleared out the al-Falah district, located on the city’s eastern side.

"We are now in al-Falah al-Oula and al-Falah al-Thaniya. We breached the defensive lines of the terrorist Daesh and we pushed deeper inside. Now we are carrying search operations in the neighborhood and we found Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi Camp. We seized it and we confiscated all the equipment. The camp contains military equipment and a field for physical training of fighters to prepare them to fight the security forces,” he said.

Earlier, Iraqi forces announced that they had wrested control of two villages in western Tal Abtah and Tal Afar and liberated the Sanaiyah district in eastern Mosul during clashes that killed 20 Takfiri militants.

On Monday, an Iraqi military spokesman announced that several thousand Iraqi federal police forces are getting prepared to join the assault against the Takfiri terrorists in east Mosul.

The Iraqi army and volunteer fighters have been leading a large offensive to retake Mosul since October 17. The northern city of Mosul fell to Daesh in 2014, when the terror outfit began its campaign of death and destruction in the Arab country. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has vowed that Mosul would be fully recaptured by the end of 2016.
