US is not a country of negotiations: cleric

Ayatollah Mohsen Heydari, a member of Iran's Assembly of Experts, referred to the words of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, wherein he said that the betrayal of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) should be transferred to public opinion.

“If someone considers the way the imperialistic US deals with Islam and Iran and the entire world, they will understand that the US is not a country of negotiations and concessions,” he told Rasa.

The temporary Friday prayer leader of Ahvaz added the US’ abusive and aggressive record is an example of this nature. The US just wants itself to remain and desires that all other countries to surrender to them. “For this reason, even when they promise something at the negotiating table, they ask for more and renege on their promises before the ink has even dried,” he said.

Ayatollah Heydari explained that in the first stage, when they wanted to announce the contents of the P5+1 negotiations, the US published another interpretation of the negotiations and were not committed.

He added that the US became committed at a later stage when it broke its promises and did not allow the global banks to make transactions with Iran.

“For this reason, the sanctions, which were supposed to be removed with the JCPOA, have not been removed despite the passing of many months since [January 16, 2016] when the sanctions were to be removed,” he said.

Ayatollah Heydari said that those officials who pinned their hopes on the negotiations have clung to a mirage as they could not resolve the issues with the US.

“Unfortunately, some officials justify the US’ actions even though they know that the sanctions have not been lifted and have covered up the US’ promises and crimes by their words,” he said.
