'UN, a toy in the hands of petrodollars'

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi said that all have easily seen that Ban Ki-moon, the highest-ranking UN official, is nothing but a toy in the hands of petrodollars.

Speaking during a lecture on Sahifah al-Sajjadiyah [The Psalms of Islam], Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi said that the recent scandal surrounding Saudi Arabia’s pressuring of the United Nations into dropping the kingdom from a blacklist of children's rights violators was “unique” or “rare” and was a heavy blow to this organization which is considered as a haven for the oppressed people of the world.

“All have easily seen that Ban Ki-moon, the highest-ranking UN official, is nothing but a toy in the hands of petrodollars,” the revered source of emulation added.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi said that the UN had Saudi Arabia on their blacklist for few days but suddenly turned and removed them from their blacklist with Ban saying he had no choice because Saudi Arabia had threatened to cut off its financial assistance, which comes from its oil revenue, to the UN.

His Eminence stressed this event was an earthquake in the thinking of the simple-minded, which the international community and the high-ranking claimants of human rights are seeking to solve.

He stated that which is more scandalous is that the Americans recently explicitly said that a 28-page document exists which shows Saudi Arabia was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks and it will be released soon. In addition to this, Saudi Arabia has explicitly threatened to withdraw their capital from US banks if this document is released.

“Suddenly a page was turned and politicians discovered that Saudi Arabia has never interfered in this issue and is innocent and clear of any charges!” he said.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi added: “Is such a world a place of safety and security where funds from illicit oil revenues, which are the right of the poor of Saudi Arabia, can turn a demon into an angel?”

The renowned scholar added: “Here, we must know that in contrast to the slaves of the petrodollars who have taken Ban, the only way is to be strong against the US government so that these ‘slaves of gold’ cannot ‘pressure’ us.”
