Iranian scientists are going to participate in the 16th International Likhachov Scientific Conference in Russia’s Saint Petersburg, due to be held from May 19 to 21.

According to Iran’s Embassy in Moscow, a number of Iranian figures take part in the conference, titled “Contemporary Global Challenges and National Interests.”
Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Mahdi Sanaei is also a member of the executive committee of the conference, the embassy said.
Moreover, two Iranian scientists are going to deliver speeches to the gathering, including Reza Ameli and Nasrin Mosaffa from the University of Tehran.
The International Likhachov Scientific Conference at St. Petersburg University of the Humanities and Social Sciences was first held in May 1995. The conference was initiated by Dmitry Sergeyevich Likhachov and other professors at Saint Petersburg University.
After Likhachov passed away, writer D.A. Granin and professor A.S. Zapesotsky proposed that the conference should receive the official status of International Likhachov Scientific Conference, which was agreed by Russia President Vladimir Putin in May 2001, according to the conference’s official website.
