Al-Azhar University denounced the Israeli regime’s latest attack on the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Al-Azhar University in its new statement slammed severely the recent Israeli regime’s move in storming the al-Aqsa Mosque in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) and firing rubber bullets and tear gas at Palestinians, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

“Firing bullets to Worshipers runs against divine teachings and principles regarding to peaceful coexistence and cooperation,” the statement reads.

Al-Azhar stressed the crimes perpetrated by the regime of Zionism in storming the Mosque triggers wave of anger and hatred.

Needless to say the Israeli recent move was strongly censured by Muslims and Palestinian authorities, including President Mahmoud Abbas.

The al-Aqsa Mosque compound, located in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds, is a flashpoint holy Islamic site. The location of the compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, is the holiest site in Judaism. The mosque is Islam’s third holiest site after Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina, Saudi Arabia.
