JCPOA never meant to reconcile Iran-US relations

Ayatollah Khatami has stressed that Iran never mean to reconcile its relationship with the US by signing the nuclear agreement with the P5+1 group of countries, stressing Imam Khomeini never permitted mending ties with the US during his life or thereafter.
JCPOA never meant to reconcile Iran-US relations
Speaking at a Conference, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a member of the Board of Directors of the Assembly of Experts, stated that “in regard to foreign policy, after the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with the P5+1, the United States has continuously strived to suggest that Iran and the US have reconciled their differences.”

His Eminence explained that this is not true, as that the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, has stated numerous times that Iran is trying to frustrate the US’ trickery and deception, saying that the JCPOA was agreed upon with the P5+1 group of countries, not the US alone, and was only in regard to the nuclear issue.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed at Ahlul-Bayt World Assembly that: “Iran will not have negotiations with the US regarding bilateral, regional and global issues unless in exceptional cases like the nuclear [issue], which has had precedent.”

Ayatollah Khatami said that the agreement should take its course according to law, adding that the Supreme National Security Council and the Iranian Parliament must approve the agreement. In this case, Article 77 of the Iranian constitution states that any international treaty must be approved by parliament.

The member of Assembly of Experts emphasized that the nuclear agreement never meant to lead to a reconciliation or a thaw in relations between Iran and the US. “From the beginning of the Islamic Revolution until his departure, the late Imam Khomeini’s fundamental policy was to never mend ties with the US during his lifetime or thereafter,” he said.

Ayatollah Khatami also added that the US as well as the United Kingdom have the darkest records throughout the Islamic world, adding: "Don’t think that Iran’s hatred for these arrogant powers will disappear.”

He also condemned the UK for its responsibility for the sedition which occurred after the 2009 Iranian elections, a and stated: “We can’t destroy the this arrogant power by beautifying it.”
