Iran says unity among different Lebanese groups will help the country stand up to the Israeli regime’s threats.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that only unity and national solidarity among various Lebanese tribes will guarantee Lebanon’s stability, security and peace and protect the country against any threats by the fake Israeli regime and Takfiri and terrorist groups,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It extended Iran’s congratulations to the Lebanese government, nation and the resistance movement, Hezbollah, particularly its Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, over Hezbollah’s victory against the Israeli war in 2006 which was achieved due to unity and convergence among all groups in Lebanon.
“The significance of resistance against the Zionist enemy is undeniable,” the statement read.
About 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed in the Israeli war on Lebanon in the summer of 2006. However, Hezbollah fighters defeated the Israeli military, forcing Tel Aviv to retreat without achieving any of its objectives.
The statement also assessed as “constructive and positive” a recent visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Lebanon and his talks with the country’s authorities.
Iran stresses the importance of improving ties with Lebanon and reaffirms its full support for the Lebanese government, army and resistance movement, the ministry said.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran once again expresses its backing for the completion of Lebanon’s political process through national consensus,” the statement pointed out.
The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Lebanon on Tuesday for a two-day visit on the first leg of his second regional tour following a nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers. He also paid visits to Syria, Pakistan and India and held talks with their senior officials on bilateral ties as well as the latest regional and international developments.
