Zarif made the remarks prior to heading on a tour of regional countries on Sunday in a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Muradov upon his arrival in Tehran at Mehrabad Airport.

“The ISIL terrorist group is a serious threat to regional countries,” Zarif said, adding, “It is imperative that regional countries boost their cooperation in the fight against this terrorist group.”

Touching on the relations between Tehran and Ashgabat, the Iranian foreign minister said, “Bilateral ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan is at a very good level and following the previous meeting between the presidents of the countries good decisions have been made to expand the relations between the two countries.”

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in Ashgabat on March 11.

During Rouhani's two-day visit, the two countries signed 17 cooperation agreements in political, economic and cultural areas as well as cooperation in environmental issues and fighting terrorism.
Muradov, for his part, hailed the recent conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 countries– the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany on Zarif and the Iranian nation.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 countries finalized the text of an agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital of Vienna. Under the JCPOA, limits are put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for a set of commitments by the P5+1, including the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.

Zarif’s opposite number stressed that the ground is prepared for Iran and Turkmenistan to upgrade their cooperation in different fields, adding that after the removal of sanctions against Iran such cooperation can increase even more.

He further described the nuclear breakthrough as a major diplomatic victory for the Islamic Republic, stressing that officials in the Central Asian country have always underscored in their meeting with Western officials that Iran should like many other countries enjoy the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy.

He also stressed that Iran is a great country and issues surrounding the country should be resolved diplomatically and peacefully.
