'UN complicit in Saudi crimes in Yemen'

In a meeting with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani stressed that the Saudi regime should know that their criminal aggression in Yemen will not be beneficial for them and should be held accountable for all of their crimes.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Dr Hoseyn Amir-Abdollahian has met with Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi-Golpayani.

At the beginning of their meeting, Dr Amir-Abdollahian delivered a report on the current situation in the region and information on Saudi Arabia’s attack on Yemen was presented.

Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani thanked Dr Amir-Abdollahian and the Foreign Ministry in this regard, stressing that the important events which have recently occurred in the region should be scrutinized and appropriate action must be taken carefully and with much deliberation.

The revered source of emulation noted the events occurring in Yemen and spoke of Saudi Arabia’s "criminal aggression on the defenceless and oppressed people of the already impoverished Arab country", saying: “Why should the so-called international community, especially the United Nations, remain indifferent to the killing of innocent people in Yemen. Instead of defending the oppressed and saving them from their oppressors, why is this organization – which has the duty to protect innocent and defenceless victims around the world – issuing resolutions against them and, in reality, allowing these tyrants to continue their crimes?!”

Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani continued, saying that Saudi rulers should know that this criminal aggression will not be beneficial for them and they should be held accountable for all of their killing and destruction. Innocent people – including children and women, young and old – have been killed and injured by these criminal oppressors in the past few days. “Shouldn’t the Arab and Muslim countries protect them?” he said.

His Eminence pointed to the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and said: “Today the people of Yemen are being oppressed and the main duty of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is centred around strong diplomacy so that they can rein in the hand of the oppressors.”

He also praised the good work done by the Ministry and hoped that they will continue on this path. He also hoped that Iran’s diplomatic authorities consider interaction with the region and the world as the main priority of their work.

At the end of his meeting with Dr. Amir-Abdollahian, Ayatollah Safi-Golpaygani prayed for the victory of the defenceless and oppressed people of Yemen. He also prayed for the destruction of all of the treacherous enemies of Islam and the success of those who serve Islam and the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
