The Iranian minister will leave Tehran for Astana on Sunday for a two-day visit at the invitation of his Kazakh counterpart Yerlan Idrisov.

The visit will take place within the framework of close consultations between the two countries and with the purpose of following up on agreements reached during Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to Astana last September.

In September 2014, President Rouhani, leading a high-ranking economic and diplomatic delegation, made a five-day tour of the Central Asian states of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. During the trip, Iran signed separate agreements with the two states on the expansion of ties in various fields.

Zarif and Idrisov are also set to exchange views about the latest regional and international developments.
