Iranian Cultural Attaché in Iraq said the main purpose behind the West’s move to desecrate Islamic sanctities is creating divisions between Muslims and followers of other religions.

Hojat-ol-Islam Gholam Reza Abazari referred to the publication of a sacrilegious cartoon by the French magazine Charlie Hebdo and said the French government has defended the move as an example of freedom of expression but the main aim behind it is to provoke Muslim sentiments and divide followers of different faiths, IQNA.

On January 14, the French weekly, whose Paris office was attacked by two gunmen on January 7, once again published a cartoon of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) on the cover of its new edition despite warnings that the move is provocative.

Hojat-ol-Islam Abazari said that since the enemy seeks to incite Muslim anger to distort the image of Islam and develop its Islamophobia scheme, Muslims are advised to avoid any violence and try to show logical reaction to the blasphemous move.

He added, though, that all Muslims should legally and peacefully express their protest against the act of desecration.

He also urged Muslim world governments to use the political, cultural and legal means at their disposal to confront the countries involved in insulting religious sanctities.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hojat-ol-Islam Abazari stressed that ignorant moves like the desecration of Islamic values have only led to the spread of Islam in the past.

He went on to say that the West’s Islamophobic groups and Takfiri groups within the Islamic world have the same roots and that both aim to undermine the true Islam.
