ISIL “is a creation of the West. When I say the West, I am referring primarily to the United States, the United Kingdom, the EU, NATO, Israel, and Saudi Arabia,” Walt Peretto told Press TV on Saturday.

“The two main goals of [the creation of] ISIS (ISIL) is to replace al-Qaeda as a threat to the Western interests after al-Qaeda was exposed as another Western creation,” he added.

“The other main role of ISIS is to be an excuse to bomb Syria,” the analyst said.

The ISIL terrorists, who were initially trained by the CIA in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize the Syrian government, now control large parts Iraq and Syria.

US warplanes have been conducting airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq since early August.

Some Western states have also participated in some of the strikes in Iraq.

Since late September, the US and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.

Some analysts have criticized the aerial military campaign in Syria, saying the strikes are meant to destroy the Arab country's infrastructure.
